Morris Lions Club Car Show

The car show Gods were smiling on Morris this past weekend when the Lions Club hosted their 26ht annual Fall Classic Car Show.  It was my first time at this event and I must say I was totally blown away.  I am loading and editing the hundreds of pictures I took as I type, and as I have and had a bit of personal business to attend to these past few days my wrap up will be on it's way ASAP.  I apologize for the delay but trust me, you are not going to want to miss my coverage of this end of the season blow out!

Byron Dragway Wheelstand Addition

The World Power Wheelstand Competition has been a highlight of my 2012 season.  Watching muscle machines reach for outer space is, in a word, awesome.  It seems that there are quite a few folks that feel the same way I do.  We have had a great response to the videos we've posted on Youtube from the competition.  I also have a ton of, in my opinion, great still shots of  each individual attempt.  I'm on the fence when it comes to video vs. picture.  I have to say the captured moment when the entire car is off the track and looks like it will never come down is pretty cool however, watching a continuous 1/8 mile wheelie can't be beat.  So, I thought why not combine the best of both.  I have compiled a video of well, video and stills of some of the runs made at Byron.  Those split seconds that are just too quick for the eye to capture are in the vid, hope you like it.  By the way the audio is unique to each run.

Morris Lions Club Car Show was rained out on Sunday so my local season continues for another week, stay tuned.

More from Iron Invasion and Wheelstanding Contest

This past weekend was a REAL humdinger!  Both shows were way way waaaay out, iron rolling low and reaching for the sky.  The Iron Invasion was just as it was billed "an event designed for one purpose - fun".  For the first year of the show I'd have to say it was a smashing success, the grounds were filled with tons of rad rides while hoards of spectators took it all in, rubbing elbows with the crazy cats and kool kittens that brought their chariots to the Invasion.

It was the bee's knees but don't take my word for it; cast an eyeball for yourself.  Not to worry I have a boat load more to bring you form this intense invasion.

Kinda funny to go from go-go dancers to wheelstands but I'm a connoisseur of all things gear head thank you very much.  The Byron World Power Wheelstand Contest kinda explains itself.  If they could fit awesome into the title somewhere I think it would be perfect then.  I've put together some highlights from the day. I know, I know,  I've included the winning run twice but it is such a thing of beauty I can't get enough of it!

Be sure to check out the Most Recent Show Gallery for some more awesome stills from Byron Dragway and the Wheelstand Championship.  In the days to come we will be adding all the shots from both the Iron Invasion and The Wheelstand Championship to the Members Gallery.  We'll be adding about 1,500 so.... check it out and check it out often!

I'll be heading to the Morris Lions Club Car Show this weekend.  Let's keep our fingers crossed the weather cooperates.  I will be getting a judging tutorial from a couple of my friends at the Chicagoland Corvair Enthusiasts Club; they're doing the official judging of the event.  I can't wait to get the skinny from the pros.

Last but definitely not least, I want to say a big Howdy Y'all to our new friends from the GoodGuys Lone Star Nationals, welcome friends we're glad to have you.

Iron Invasion + Wheelstand Championship = Crazy Weekend

One weekend .... two shows .... from hot rods and pin ups to monster machines launching into outer space.  The Iron Invasion and the World Power Wheelstand Championship stuffed into 48 hours, I was on both sides of the gearhead coin this weekend it was an overdose of iron and internal combustion and it couldn't have been better.

I have hundreds of pictures and hours of video to sift through but I thought I'd wet your whistle for the good things to come.

Have I got your attention yet? And ya, that's daylight underneath those tires!

Needless to say, stay tuned friends I've got so much more to bring you.  By the way be sure and check out Kruz Tube, that's the winning wheelstand, 660ft of Barracuda reaching for the sky.

AutoCross at the Speedway Nationals

Like every new form of motorsports competition, it didn't take autocross long before people started building some serious machines.  They may look like regular Camaros, Chevelles, Mustangs etc on the outside but underneath they're purpose built - like 500+ cubic inch all aluminum LS engines, 6 speed twin disc transmissions, adjustable ride height active air suspensions, disc breaks the size of large pizzas.  They can accelerate, corner, and stop with the best of them.

The GoodGuys Indy autocross was no exception.  The Roadster Shop was there with it's orange and white pickup rocket ship.  Schwartz Performance had it's bad-to-the-bone Pontiac Tempest along with Jeff's LS powered 50's Chevy pickup.  I lost count of the number of Detroit Speed and Ride Tech missiles.  But maybe the biggest sleeper of them all was Tim and Debbie Farrington's '64 Chevelle beater station wagon with an exterior full of dents and pock marked with rust and 3 different non matching colors of green and it's interior was even worse.  But the laughter stopped when they dropped the hammer and that ugly duckling began to roar.  It's got a ZZ4 coupled to a 6 speed and a whole bunch of Detroit Speed suspension goodies underneath. That puppy can definitely run with the big dogs!

Enough talk, the fun part is seeing these machines in action.  Enjoy.

You didn't think I was going to forget the wolf in sheep's clothing did you.  Here is the Chevelle wagon tearin' up the track.

We have a full calendar coming up!  First the Iron Invasion, picking up where the Hunnert Car Pile Up left off.  Then high flying action at the World Wheelstand Championships.  Gotta get my rest and gear up for some good times to come!
