A hobby that grew into a business is the story behind Kyle and Stacy Tucker and Detroit Speed. Both coming from Hot Rodding families, Kyle and Stacy were no strangers to the ins and outs of the automotive world.
After marrying, Kyle and Stacy wanted to build a car together, but not just any old street rod. They wanted something they could really drive; as in race. AutoCross, Road Courses, anywhere they wanted to take it, a purpose built performance ride that they could also ultimately take on the Power Tour.
Their dream ride was a '69 Camaro with a twist; race car underneath, comfort ride on top. At the time both Tuckers had engineering careers at GM, not a bad place to spend your days when your nights were spent in the garage building something from scratch. Since the Tuckers were really coloring outside the lines with their '69 Camaro many of the parts they wanted and needed weren't available so they built their own. Talk about necessity being the mother of invention.
The Tuckers ultimately "debuted" their '69 Camaro on the 2000 Power Tour. The Power Tour led to a Street Machine of the Year win and with several other awards that year, people quickly started noticing their work. Something they started doing for fun quickly turned into a thriving business.
Fast forward 14 years and one phrase just might be enough to sum it up for the Tuckers and Detroit Speed and Engineering- "Winner of the prestgious 2014 SEMA Builder’s Shoot Out." Not too shabby for a couple whose business grew out of a shared hobby. Today the Detroit Speed and Engineering team is made up of engineers, technicians and enthusiasts whose love of cars comes through in each of their builds. Their full line of chassis and suspension products as well as their complete builds are world class. The goal at Detroit Speed and Engineering is to turn customers projects into state of the art 21st century rides whether it's with their components or from a wheels up turn-key. For Detroit Speed, expertise means longevity not only for their parts but the projects cars built with those parts; their true desire is to obsessively exceed customers expectations!Read More
