The KKOA Leadsled Spectacular 2018 is in the books and I’m not sure where to begin. It lived up to it’s name and then some. Spec – tac – U – lar is putting it mildly! It’s hard to say if it was the mercury rising or the thousands of HOT Kustoms, Classics and Rods causing Salina Kansas to sizzle the last weekend in July. But, things there were Hot, Hot, Hot!
Established in 1980, Kustom Kemps Of America is the oldest continually operating Kustom Car and Truck association. KKOA’s philosophy is that if you are a connoisseur of automotive architecture or just a good ol’ boy that digs Leadsleds, Kustoms in all forms and grassroot vintage Hot Rodding, KKOA is the place for you. These guardians of the Kustom flame have kept the faith alive and well all these years and it shows with their incredibly loyal following.
The devoted KKOA’ers brought out their Kemps and turned downtown Oakdale Park into the epicenter of Koolsville. KKOA was keeping it Kool and the rides were keeping it Hot! Salina has been dubbed America’s Hot Rodding Playground and the 38th Anniversary of the Leadsled Spectacular brought out the best of the best to “kavort” in the Kansas sun.
The rides were long and low.
There were flames, fins and ferociously fat front ends
Lastly, there were enough Mercs to bring a grown man to tears.
You just never know what you are going to see at the KKOA Leadsled Spectacular. This show was big time, fat city baby. It was 40 acres of candy colored Kustoms each wilder than the next. Cuff your jeans, grab a pack of Luckys or a PBR. Sit a spell and check out 2018 Leadsled Spectacular.
