Team Vibrant Performance Wins 2018 Hot Rodders of Tomorrow National Championship!
Joliet, IL. - The Final Half of the Hot Rodders of Tomorrow Engine Challenge 2018 Dual Championship took place this past week at the PRI Show in Indianapolis, IN. It included 17 teams which came from coast to coast to battle to become one of the Top 4 teams to move on and compete in the Elite eight playoffs for the 2018 National Championship at the PRI Show Dec. 7th and 8th.
A total of forty-four teams competed at the SEMA and PRI shows just to get into the Elite Eight competition. The top four SEMA show seeds against the top four PRI show seeds.
The Elite Eight Teams
The top four teams that moved on to the Elite Eight from the PRI Show were Team Engine & Performance Warehouse from Elkhart Area Career Center, Elkhart IN. who came in fourth place with an average time of 24:13. Team RHS Racing Heads from Forsyth Central High School in Cumming, GA. came in third place with an average of 24:04. Team Allstar Performance also from Forsyth Central High School in Cumming, GA. came in second place with an average of 21:16. And in first place came Team Vibrant Performance, from Burton Center for Arts & Tech in Salem, VA. with the best average of 18:12.
The top four teams from the SEMA Show were Team Custom Automotive Network (CAN), from Eastern Oklahoma Technology Center out of Choctaw, OK. with an average time of 18:35. Team Canton Racing Products, Lakeshore High School in Stevensville, MI. came in second place with an average of 19:57. Team Mr. Gasket, C D Hylton High School from Woodbridge, PA. took third place with an average of 22:42. And team Edelbrock, Hunter High School from West Valley City, UT. came in fourth place with an average of 23:57.

Interestingly, Team Edelbrock, from Hunter High School, a second-year team moved on to the Elite Eight Playoffs during the SEMA Show. Tyler Perkins, from Team Edelbrock at Hunter High School, mentioned after the Elite Eight Playoffs, “This image006.jpgis a Roller-coaster of emotions. Each run felt like a runaway freight train that could derail at any moment.”

The times are based on three important parts. First it is the average of the three times the teams competed. Second, are the penalty minutes added for mistakes made during dis-assembly and re-assembly and the third part is a 50-question written test on parts and tools identification along with general engine and rules knowledge.

The Elite Eight, The Best Against the Best!
It was a close competition as all of the Elite Eight teams flew around the Chevy 350 high performance engines tearing them apart and then re-assembling them. All eight teams had at least one perfect engine build. Teams Engine & Performance Warehouse, Vibrant, and Edelbrock each had two perfect engine builds during the Elite Eight Playoffs. The total time difference between first and fourth place teams was only two minutes and eight seconds! In the end Team Vibrant Performance, from Burton Center for Arts & Tech in Salem, VA, won with an average time of 17:26. Burton Center’s coach Chris Overfelt who has won the national championship for a third time. When asked about it said “I am in shock all over again”. Asked if he was nervous during the Elite Eight Championship, he said “I was not nervous because the team has kept their composure all week”.
Interestingly enough, there was a new coach participating in this year’s Dual National Championship from Forsyth Central High School in Cumming, GA. - Coach Drew Graham - Team Moroso, he has been a part of Hot Rodders in all 3 different roles: as Student, Judge, and now a Coach “It has changed a lot over the years. As a Student you worried about making the mistakes, as a Judge you felt bad about calling the mistakes, and as a Coach you try to prevent the mistakes.”
Over 3.7 Million Dollars in Scholarships Offered
Each student earned scholarship opportunities ranging from $5,000 to $10,000 from Ohio Technical College, School of Automotive Machinists & Technology, and Universal Technical Institute. Hi, I was installing your BMW S52 rod bolt kit (201-6201) as per your instructions, and one of the bolts snapped. All of the other ones are fine, leading me to suspect a defective bolt. I need a replacement bolt to complete my project.
